A free SAT transition-words game

The SAT's transition questions aren't really about the words however, therefore, or nevertheless. They're about the relationship between two ideas. The Transition Ward makes you diagnose that relationship first, then prescribe the word that fits. Reach for the word before you've named the relationship and the game shows you exactly why the wrong one doesn't fit.

How to play

Each round is a two-step call: read the two ideas on the monitor, name what connects them (contrast, cause, example, and so on), then pick the transition that treats it. It's the same move the test rewards, drilled a few seconds at a time. The game is at the top of this page.

Common questions

Is this SAT transition-words game free?

Which SAT skill does it train?

Transition questions — the logic that connects two ideas, which is what those questions actually test.

How does it work?

Name the relationship first, then pick the word that fits. Wrong picks explain themselves.
